Entrepreneurship for kids · Grades 6–9
TEACH A CHILD TO BUILD SOMETHING SOMEONE WILL PAY FOR.
Entrepreneurship for kids is the practice of letting a child find a real problem, build a solution, price it, sell it and learn from the outcome. At The Tycoon Academy this happens over five repeatable steps for learners in Grades 6 to 9.
Join the founding cohortThe five steps
What a child actually does, week by week.
- 01
Spot
The child finds a problem in their own world — a queue, a shortage, an annoyance, an unmet want — and checks whether anyone else has it too.
- 02
Bootstrap
They start with what they already have instead of waiting for funding. Constraints are the lesson, not the obstacle.
- 03
Build
They make the first version: a product, a service, a brand, a website or an app, using AI tools where those genuinely speed the work up.
- 04
Sale
They face a real customer and a real price in Rands. This is where confidence is actually built.
- 05
Learn
They review the numbers and the feedback, then decide what the next version should be.
Why it works at 11 to 15
Young enough to be fearless, old enough to be trusted with money.
Grades 6 to 9 is the window where habits form and embarrassment has not yet won. A learner this age will still knock on a door, ask for the sale and cheerfully rebuild something that failed.
All money movement happens inside a supervised environment with a learner wallet, so parents see every transaction and no child handles risk alone.
Prices, costs and profit are worked in Rands, on real numbers, for real customers — which is why the lesson sticks.

What they walk away with
Six capabilities school rarely gets to teach.
Money sense
Costs, price, margin and profit stop being abstract once the money is their own.
Communication
An idea has to be explained to a stranger who is free to say no.
Judgement
Deciding what to build, and what to leave out, is the hardest and most transferable skill.
Resilience
A refused sale is survivable, and a child who learns that early carries it forever.
Technical fluency
AI models, design tools and AI-assisted development become ordinary working tools.
Ownership
Nobody sets the deadline for them. The venture only moves if they move it.
How we handle the technology side is set out on the AI Edge page, and the wider extra-mural picture in our guide to after-school activities in South Africa.
