Grades we build for
Smart, capable people were learning life's most important skills from scratch — at 45.
For years I have helped adults launch and grow small businesses across 23 countries. More recently I have been building AI systems to help those businesses keep up with the pace of change.
During that time I have worked with thousands of business owners. Many were in their 40s and 50s. Many were highly qualified and had already had successful careers. But when it came to running a small business, I kept seeing the same thing.
How to sell something. How to price it properly. How to manage money when there is not enough of it. How to negotiate. How to spot an opportunity. How to make a decision when nobody can tell you the right answer. How to get something wrong, work out why, and try again.
WHY ON EARTH ARE WE WAITING UNTIL PEOPLE ARE 40 TO LEARN THIS STUFF?

Then AI arrived properly, and the question became personal.
I work right at the coalface of small business and AI, so I see what is happening every day.
Jobs are changing. Skills that were incredibly valuable five years ago are becoming less valuable. AI can now do things in seconds that businesses used to employ people to do. Some industries will adapt. Some jobs will disappear. Completely new opportunities will appear just as quickly.
Nobody knows what the working world will look like by the time our children are 25. But I know this: being qualified will not be enough on its own.
They will need to think for themselves, spot opportunities, communicate, adapt, solve problems, understand money and use technology intelligently. Most importantly, they need to know how to create value for other people.
That was the seed of Tycoon Academy.
We teach those lessons while they are still kids.
Not at 40. Not after university. Now.
But I need to be clear about something. I am not trying to create a generation of little businessmen and businesswomen. That completely misses the point.
If my son wants to be an artist, brilliant — I want him to know how to make a living from his art. If another child wants to be a doctor, engineer, carpenter, musician, designer, inventor, programmer or athlete, fantastic. Their dream is their choice.
What I want to give them are the skills to make that dream work in the real world. To understand what people value. To communicate what they can do. To create opportunities rather than always waiting for someone else to give them one. And to understand how money actually works.
THE DREAM BELONGS TO THEM. WE GIVE THEM THE TOOLS TO MAKE A LIFE FROM IT.
Experience most adults only get after decades of trial and error.
So they actually build things. They try to sell them. They deal with customers. They negotiate. They work with money. They use AI as a tool, not a crutch. They make decisions. Sometimes they get those decisions completely wrong.
Good. Then we help them understand what happened, change something and go again. Because that is how the real world works.
I would much rather my children learn those lessons now, when the cost of getting something wrong is small, than learn them for the first time when they have a mortgage, children and salaries to pay.

We are changing the starting point of the generation after them too.
There is another part of this that I think we sometimes miss. We are not only preparing our children to look after themselves.
One day they are going to have children of their own. And they will have to prepare those children for a world we probably cannot even imagine yet.
If we can raise a generation that knows how to think independently, adapt, learn quickly, create value and make a living from its talents, we are not just changing their starting point. We are changing the starting point of the generation that comes after them.
None of the business stuff is the reason I created this.
My work has been recognised through the Great British Entrepreneur Awards, Elite Business 100 and franchise industry awards. I have served as a Director of the British Franchise Association, worked internationally and helped businesses of all shapes and sizes grow.
That experience matters because it gives Tycoon Academy real-world grounding. But none of it is the reason I created it.
I created it because I am a dad. And when you strip everything else away, I think I have one pretty important job: prepare my kids properly for the world they are going into.
I want them to think for themselves. To know they can create something from nothing. To make money from the things they are good at. To know what to do when the plan falls apart. To be comfortable with change rather than frightened by it. And to have years of real experience behind them before the consequences of getting things wrong become serious.
